Follow Thurs/Friday and Daring To Read (New Meme)

This week's feature blogger is In Which Em Reviews Books & Reading In The Corner

Q: If you could have dinner with your favorite book character, who would you eat with and what would you serve?

A: Well that would be easy. My answer would be Gin Blanco from Jennifer Estep's Elemental Assassin Series. I really like how tough she is and she is one great cook. We would hang out and eat those delicious ribs that she makes.

Now For the Daring To Read Meme comes from Tynga's Reviews

The Book I Dare People to Read is

Here is a synopsis:

Dear Reader,

Being trapped in a bedroom with a woman is a grand thing. Being trapped in hundreds of bedrooms over two thousand years isn't. And being cursed into a book as a love-slave for eternity can ruin even a Spartan warrior's day.

As a love-slave, I know everything about women. How to touch them, how to savor them, and most of all, how to pleasure them. But when I was summoned to fulfill Grace Alexander's sexual fantasies, I found the first woman in history who saw me as a man with a tormented past. She alone bothered to take me out of the bedroom and onto the world. She taught me to love again.

But I was not born to love. I was cursed to walk eternity alone. As a general, I had long ago accepted my sentence. Yet now I have found Grace--the one thing my wounded heart cannot survive without. Sure, love can heal all wounds, but can it break a two-thousand-year-old curse?

Julian of Macedon

Now the reason I love this book, was because it inspired my love of all things Paranormal Romance. I love the characters and how this prequel book sets up the rest of the series and universe.

Plus Julian is a handsome love slave and Grace, the main character (who just happens to have the same first name as me) is a strong modern female. Not to mention everything about this book was wonderful.

The love scenes were some of the hottest that I ever read in my life. I thought this was a great story. It made me become a fan of paranormal romance. After I read this, I wanted to read more paranormal romances. So a lot of great memories come from this book.

Early Review-A Darker Still by Leanna Renee Heiber

Title: A Darker Still
Author: Leanna Renee Heiber
Series: Magic Most Foul #1
Genre: Young Adult, Paranormal Romance, Gothic Elements, Some Dorian Grey Elements….
Pub Date: November 1, 2011 Note: Some bookstores already have a finished copy on shelves
Publisher: Sourcebooks
My Copy/Source: BEA, autographed by author

Book Synopsis from my ARC:

I was obsessed

It was as if he called to me, demanding I reach out and touch the brushstrokes of color swirled onto the canvas. It was the most exquisite portrait I’d ever seen-everything about Lord Denbury was unbelievable….utterly breathtaking and eerily lifelike.

There was a reason for that. Because despite what everyone said, Denbury never had committed suicide. He was alive. Trapped within his golden frame.

I’ve crossed over into his world within the painting, and I’ve seen what dreams haunt him. They haunt me too. He and I are inextricably linked---bound together to watch the darkness seeping through the gas-lit cobblestone streets of Manhattan. And unless I can free him soon, things will only get DARKER STILL.

Book Review:

A delicious strawberry chocolate delectable treat.  This book really was very good.  It draws you in and takes you on a journey that you just can’t forget.

I like how both the heroine and her hero are both trapped. They both are trapped in very different ways. Natalie our heroine is a very attractive young woman. Yet she is a mute and doesn’t speak. So society basically says that since she is disabled she will be trapped by not being able to speak. Our hero Lord Denbury, who is quite dashing is dead or one assumes. His soul is trapped in a painting. He is unable to communicate to the living or so he thinks.

Natalie meets a woman, Mrs. Northe who is both a friend and a motherly figure, through her father’s connection. Mrs. Northe helps Natalie a lot in this book. Natalie finds that Mrs. Northe is someone she can confide to or talk to. Mrs. Northe is very valuable in the book.

When Natalie tells Mrs. Northe about her being able to go into the painting where Denbury is trapped, Mrs. Northe agrees to help her. Natalie doesn’t know what it’s about Denbury that she finds attractive, but she is very attracted to him.

Natalie finds that when she goes inside the painting that she can speak and he can feel her when in the painting and they communicate with one another. Eventually through helping Denbury, Natalie finds herself falling in love with him.  The things that happen between our hero and heroine is very sweet as they find themselves in a situation they didn’t expect and have to fight together to save their lives as well.

Also the twists and turns towards the end of this book was just so perfect. I really enjoyed it and felt like it was so terrific. Plus I love how Natalie found her voice and that Denbury helps her to do that. What also made this book unique was the use of different mythology in decoding the curse. Also love that when Denbury gets free, him and Natalie get together and decide to do it together.

Really enjoyed the book. I adored the book a lot. So it gets a rating of

Time for those book that I Did Not Finish #2

Ever had books that for some reason people loved, but you didn't love or just couldn't finish.

Well here's a list of books that I just couldn't get into for some weird reason

1. Fury by Elizabeth Miles

Synopsis:

Sometimes sorry isn't enough....
It’s winter break in Ascension, Maine. The snow is falling and everything looks pristine and peaceful. But not all is as it seems...
Between cozy traditions and parties with her friends, Emily loves the holidays. And this year’s even better--the guy she’s been into for months is finally noticing her. But Em knows if she starts things with him, there’s no turning back. Because his girlfriend is Em’s best friend.
On the other side of town, Chase is having problems of his own. The stress of his home life is starting to take its toll, and his social life is unraveling. But that’s nothing compared to what’s really haunting him. Chase has done something cruel...something the perfect guy he pretends to be would never do. And it’s only a matter of time before he’s exposed.
In Ascension, mistakes can be deadly. And three girls—three beautiful, mysterious girls—are here to choose who will pay.
Em and Chase have been chosen.

2. Carrier of the Mark by Leigh Fallon.  This one made me cringe. All because of the insta-love

Synopsis:

Their love was meant to be.
When Megan Rosenberg moves to Ireland, everything in her life seems to fall into place. After growing up in America, she's surprised to find herself feeling at home in her new school. She connects with a group of friends, and she is instantly drawn to darkly handsome Adam DeRÍs.
But Megan is about to discover that her feelings for Adam are tied to a fate that was sealed long ago—and that the passion and power that brought them together could be their ultimate destruction.

3. Bloodspell by Amalie Howard I tried so hard to like this book. Just couldn't finish it. vampires and witches. Sounded so good.

Synopsis:

The spell was simple...

Cruentus Protectum (Defend the Blood)

But what do you do if your blood is your enemy?

Victoria Warrick has always known she was different. An outcast at school, she is no stranger to adversity. But when she receives an old journal for her seventeenth birthday, nothing prepares her for the dark secrets it holds -- much less one that reveals she's a witch with unimaginable power.

What's more, when she meets the dazzling but enigmatic Christian Devereux, she has no idea how much her life is about to change. Enemies will hunt her. Friends will turn on her. The terrible curse that makes her blood run black will stop at nothing to control her. And Christian has a sinister secret of his own...

Without knowing whom to trust, can Victoria survive her blood's deadly desires? Or will she lose everything, including herself?

4. A Beautiful Dark by Jocelyn Davies

Book Snyposis:
On the night of Skye's seventeenth birthday, she meets two enigmatic strangers. Complete opposites;like fire and ice;Asher is dark and wild, while Devin is fair and aloof. Their sudden appearance sends Skye's life into a tailspin. She has no idea what they want, or why they seem to follow her every move only that their presence coincides with a flurry of strange events. Soon she begins to doubt not just the identity of the two boys, but also the truth about her own past.
In the dead of a bitingly cold Colorado winter, Skye finds herself coming to terms with the impossible secret that threatens to shatter her world. Torn between Asher, who she can't help falling for, and Devin, who she can't stay away from, the consequences of Skye's choice will reach further than the three of them could ever imagine.

So these were some of the books that I tried to like, but couldn't bring myself to like them. You guys might like these books. They just weren't for me.
