Book Synopsis:
Nikki Beckett could only watch as a her boyfriend, Jack, sacrificed himself to save her, taking her place in the Tunnels of the Everneath for eternity - a debt that should’ve been hers. She’s living a borrowed life, and she doesn’t know what to do with the guild. And every night Jack appears in her dreams, lost and confused and wasting away.
Desperate for answers, Nikki turns to Cole, the immortal bad boy who wants to make her his queen - and the one person least likely to help. But his heart has been touched by everything about Nikki, and he agrees to assist her in the only way he can: by taking her to the Everneath himself.
Nikki and Cole descend into the Everneath, only to discover that their journey will be more difficult than they’d anticipated - and more deadly. But Nikki vows to stop at nothing to save Jack - even if it means making an incredible sacrifice of her own.
Book Review:
A fantastic sequel that pulls on your heart-strings. I felt that this book had so many terrific moments in it. Plus the triangle between the three main characters was really interesting and different. Plus the mythology was explored more and that made it even more richer and intense.
The mythology was one of the highlights of this book. I think we get to explore the Everneath in this book. In the last book, we were given hints as to who/what the queen is. Yet in this book we actually get a lot more information and a very visual description of who and what she can do. There is so much more information on the Daughters of Persephone in this book. The Daughters of Persephone was a vital part of book one and they are a major clue to whom the Queen was/is.
Yet Jack and Cole both have a piece of Nikki’s heart. I really found myself liking Cole. The flashbacks were very nicely done when we see how Jack and Nikki became a couple. It was very well done as you can find what made Jack and Nikki a couple. It made me smile, because you never forget your first love. Also kind of felt bad for Cole a little bit, because Nikki doesn’t see that Cole has it bad for her. Cole really loves her.
As Nikki and Cole are in the Everneath, you really some interesting developments as well. I really thought that Cole was doing something to help Nikki because he wanted Nikki to be happy, but not everything Cole does is for Nikki. We find out that Cole has his own agenda & we as readers don’t know what it is till the end. Nikki and Cole’s time in the Everneath is interesting because of the obstacles that are put in their way.
Also as we go through this journey, there is a OMG moment that changes everything right at the ending of this book. We find out that Nikki has changed in ways she can’t even imagine because of what has occurred. I was so happy for a few moments, then that twist made everything you thought you knew flip around. This is important because I think it will be heartbreaking for Nikki in the next book as she will have a major decision to make. Also Cole I feel will try everything in his power to sway Nikki.
I am now anxiously awaiting the next book.

I'm such a hardcore Jack fan, I'm worried Brodi will make me care about Cole, too, and I don't want that! I want to be happy with my Jack/Nikki ship, but I have a feeling this book will make me care about Cole, too.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely loved Everneath and am sooo excited for this book. Everneath really got me emotional a lot of the time and I need more of Jack and Nikki (Because I am a total Jack fan!) I'm glad to hear that this book is just as awesome as the first and that we learn a lot more vital information. Great review!
