Sunday Love Affair #4

Sunday Love Affair is a new feature here at Books of Love which spotlights Romance and Urban Fantasy titles. I like reading them. I was inspired by Parajunkee and Book Addict Patti by their Romancing the Weekends and realize I miss reading Romances and Urban Fantasy. I've been wanting to spotlight them as well, so decided to start a feature.
Oh Button was made by me and Jennifer The Book Nympho did the text.

This Week's Selection is:

Book Synopsis:

When killing people is your job, there’s no such thing as a vacation. Then again, how often does an assassin live long enough to enjoy her retirement? In this line of work, you either get lucky or you get dead. And since I destroyed my nemesis Mab Monroe a few weeks ago, all of Ashland’s lowlifes are gunning to make a name for themselves by taking out the lethal Spider-me, Gin Blanco. So I’m leaving behind my beloved barbecue joint and heading south with my baby sister, Bria, to cool my heels in a swanky beach town. Call it a weekend of fun in the sun. But when a powerful vampire with deadly elemental magic threatens an old friend of Bria’s. It looks like I’ll have to dig my Silverstone knives out of my suitcase after all. Complicating matters further is the reappearance of Detective Donovan Caine, my old lover. But Donovan is the least of my problems. Because this time, the danger is hot on my trail, and not even my elemental Ice and Stone magic may be enough to save me from getting buried in the sand-permanently.

Book Review:

Gin and company certainly don’t disappoint in this book. Gin is a character who doesn’t make appologies about who she is and what she does. What I like about this book is that the action is always intense in this book and that there were some really great conversations in this book. Wasn’t happy that Donovan Caine came back. He was such a douche bag to Gin.

There were some interesting things that happen in this book. I really like that Bria and Gin start to have some girl time alone, but it’s interrupted of course by Randall Dekes thugs or goons. Yet in true Gin and Bria helps of course they dispose of them, but neither of them realize how dangerous Randall Dekes really is. Randall wants Bria’s best friend Callie’s restaurant to complete his hotel/casino project and is willing to do anything to get it.

Randall Dekes is a vampire who is very rich, but we find out that he has been drinking elemental blood and has the power of the elementals he has been feeding. Yet what he does to Gin almost kills her. Gin underestimates him and vows to kill him. Also the fact that Randall is using his wife and wife’s sister as blood banks. I really found it interesting how Gin used her Ice Magic to make him think she was dead.

Also loved how Owen and Gin really have come along as a couple. Their scenes were great. I mean the conversation about Donovan was necessary as he is the issue that they don’t talk about. Owen is the perfect guy for Gin as he understands that she needs to do what she has to do to protect the people she loves. Also their sex scene was so hot, I just love how Jennifer Estep writes their scenes.  Everything is like perfect.

Bria also surprised me a lot in this book. She tells Donovan Caine off. Donovan Caine is engaged to Callie, Bria’s best friend. When Donovan is trying to persuade the group to do things legally not Gin’s way. Donovan is such a prick that he doesn’t see things clearly. Yet when Bria told off Donovan he and Gin were both surprised. Bria doesn’t sugar coat things. She even says that sometimes things are not easy, but sometimes Gin’s way is the only way to get rid of people like Randall Dekes.

I also like how Gin killed Randall in the end. It was one of the best deaths I’ve read in a long while.  This made the book so satisfying to me.

  1. Ooooo, I love this series!

I was a little put off by Bria in the beginning but I think she really did right by Gin by the end :-)
